At Oberlin, Kieran was very involved with the college’s arts community, appearing in mainstage theater productions, leading a student a capella group, and playing in a student band, while continuing to be a tutor and programmer for local youth through the Ninde Program. For five years, Kieran served as a musical director for Summer at Wooster, a youth arts program in his hometown. During the summer of 2016, he worked as a counselor and TA for Sitka Fine Arts Camp in Sitka, Alaska. Kieran has lived in Chinle as well, spending the fall of 2014 teaching photography and songwriting classes at CJHS/Chinle Catholic Church, returning in January 2017 as an intern at IHS, and summer in 2018 for Project Hózhó’s first summer.

Brian+James+Staff

Brian James is a senior at Oberlin College from Des Moines, Iowa. He is a biology and environmental studies major with a minor in studio art. Brian's interests lie in environmental and biological conservation, sustainable communities, and the intersection of art and the environment. In the past, he has worked on photography projects about developing sustainable communities and the effects of these communities on the natural environment in Vietnam. Brian got involved with Project Hozho because he was excited about the pairing of art with the amazing natural beauty of the Canyon de Chelly. Apart from his other interests, Brian has a passion for passing on what he has learned about environmental stewardship and importance to others, especially younger generations. He hopes to share his skills and knowledge of environmental history and stewardship, as well as photography with Project Hozho.
